The Iridium Satellite System is the only provider of truly global, truly mobile satellite voice and data solutions with complete coverage of the Earth (including oceans, airways and polar regions).

The IRIDIUM system is a satellite-based Personal Communication Services (PCS), or Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) system, supporting global, wireless digital communications. IRIDIUM provides voice, messaging and data services to mobile subscribers using handheld user terminals.

Through a constellation of 66 low-earth orbiting (LEO) satellites operated by Boeing, Iridium delivers essential communications services to and from remote areas where terrestrial communications are not available. The service is ideally suited for industrial applications such as heavy construction, defence/military, emergency services, maritime, mining, forestry, oil and gas and aviation.

This orbital configuration provides the following benefits over systems based on other orbital configurations: No significant transmission delays; small, handheld pagers and phones (versus laptop-size terminals); lower transmit power resulting in longer battery life; and complete global coverage, including all oceans and all land areas including the Poles.

Iridium Satellite Phones

Iridium offers global coverage with the exception of the North and South Poles. Satellite phones do work on ships, however clients may experience dropped calls due to the ship's change in direction. Some countries may require a licence for use.

A range of data kits, earphones, solar chargers, external aerials, spare batteries, and docking stations are available. Iridium Solar Charger

The efficient easy-to-use Solar Charger helps keep you in communication even in remote areas or locations with limited, erratic or no power service. Utilizes solar power to recharge batteries or extend talk time. Easy to read LCD metering system indicates optimal positioning of charging module for best performance. In optimal sunlight, charge time of 3 hours is similar to the AC Travel Charger. Convenient, built-in stand allows angle adjustment. The unit weighs just under 1.4Kg. An external controller provides proper voltage by regulating energy flow between Solar Charger and phone. Battery must be placed in phone while using Solar Charger.

Internet calls out via Iridium ISP

Iridium’s Direct Internet Data Service provides a compressed 9.6kbps connection and offers a feature that manages airtime by seamlessly connecting and disconnecting you through the Iridium system when no data is being transferred. This feature, called "spoofing", will reduce airtime charges, improve the phone's battery life, and seamlessly reconnect to the Iridium system if your connection is dropped.
